Today is the first day of winter so I thought I'd share this winter wonderland card that gives me Narnia vibes. Growing up in Canada and living in the North most of my life, winter was a big part of the year. I found there was something magical in the quietness that a big snowfall brought. Especially when the snow sparkled. I miss that so much. I tried to bring that magic to this card.
I started out by die cutting the fir tree/lamp panel using a beautiful Memory Box die from a white A2 (4.25x5.5) panel.
I then created a frame for the panel using the Whimsy Stamps, Stained Glass die set from black cardstock.
I needed to trim my white panel so that the frame would fit without any white showing at the top. I placed my frame on the white panel then marked with a pencil where I needed to trim. I then used scissors to cut off the white area that I marked off.
I also wanted a black lamp post, so I die cut the lamp post in black, trimmed off the bottom and adhered it overt op of the white one on my panel.
My lamp needed frosted glass! I cut some vellum to adhere behind the lamp. Then, I adhered my black frame onto the panel.
Next, I went to work on a background for my scene. I ink blended Distress Oxide inks onto a white cardstock panel. I wanted there to be a glow from the lamp post, so I placed a low tac circle mask where the lamp post would sit. I used a 1" circle punch on a full stick post it. I then blended Spun Sugar, Villainous Potion and Prize Ribbon on my panel.
Before adhering my winter panel onto the background, I had to add some sparkle to the snow! I added Stickles wherever I felt the light from the lamp would touch. Once the Stickles had dried, I adhered the winter panel to my background. Then using a white gel pen and white Posca paint pen, I added light snow or stars to my night sky.
I absolutely love how this card turned out. I am not sure if I will be able to send it out to anyone, I may just need to keep it! Naw, I already have my best friend in mind to receive this one. She has a winter birthday. This will be perfect! I hope you have a magical winter wherever you may be! Thanks so much for visiting!
