Paper Lantern Star, I-crafter

I love figuring out different ways to use the die sets I have. I gives me much more bang for my buck. Whenever I get a new die set I always cut it out in scrap paper first so I can see what it looks like. Then, I usually play with it and stare at it for a bit as my thoughts go around.( I know, a little strange).

That process led me to come up with this star lantern idea. I had first cut out and assembled a bunch of treat boxes and in moving them around I created this star shape. So, deciding that is what I wanted to go with I found patterned paper from my stash to use.

In order to make this star, I needed to create five treat boxes. Each treat box needs to have two of the box shape cut out of paper. Only one side of this star will show so only the front needs to be cut with the patterned paper. The back of the boxes I used plain white card stock. I cut 5 patterned paper box shapes and 5 plain white paper box shapes then I assembled the boxes using Tombow mono glue.

The next step was to create the star and hot glue where each box touches, making sure that the patterned side is facing down. This will create an open hexagon in the center. I covered that opening with vellum which I glued on with Tombow glue.

I then needed to create a backing to the star. Onto a piece of 12x12" white cardstock, I used the star I had created to trace one onto the paper. Then I fussy cut it out and glued it to the back to close the star up and make it look more finished.

Now that I had my star created, I needed something for the center. I grabbed the Merry Christmas die from the Christmas Indent Ornament set and die cut it out of silver glitter card stock. I glued that to the front of the star onto the vellum

With the star complete, I want to light it up! The points of the star are not glued and I could insert a small round light into each point. I then took the lantern into a dark room to see how it looks.

Thanks for visiting! I hope this helps you to find more ways for you to use dies.
