Christmas Count Down

Counting down to Christmas was an exciting part of the holidays when I was growing up. We always had advent calendars to see Christmas approach, sooo slowly!! Now though, it seems it comes way too fast!! I think it would be fun to have a real hourglass with fun holiday sequins to show the time pass. The idea for this slimline card came when I saw Whimsy Stamps Hourglass Die set. This is such a fantastic set. I cannot wait to create more fun cards using it. I wanted to create a card where you could see right through the front. I started out by die cutting the hourglass shape out of 2 navy blue cardstock panels measuring (3x6). I stacked the cardstock placed the hourglass on top, then ran it through my die cutting machine. This way the open space is identical on both panels. Then I adhered a sheet of acetate on the backside of each panel.

Then I die cut the exterior parts of the hourglass from white cardstock. I adhered them onto one of the navy panels.

On the backside of one of the panels, I created a "well" for the sparkle blend mix. I used double-sided Crystal Clear Foam Tape from The Rabbit Hole Designs. This tape is awesome because it doesn't show around the edges like regular foam tape. I also brushed anti static powder all around the sides of the tape facing the inside of the well. This decreases the stickiness so fewer sequins get stuck along the sides.

I added my cute Christmas Sparkle Blend by Doodles Paper Playground to the well, removed the release paper from the tape and carefully placed the other navy hourglass panel over top.

I then die cut small letters to create "Christmas count down" out of red cardstock. I searched through my stash to find dies with words to get the letters I needed to use. Then I adhered them to the base of the hourglass at the top and the bottom. And added red self-adhesive gems to each side of the hourglass.

Once my hourglass was complete, I used the hourglass die to cut the shape out of the front flap of a white slimline card base. Then I adhered the hourglass to the front panel lining it up over the hourglass opening.

I really enjoyed creating this card and am so happy with how it came out!! This fun card is headed to my nephews. They are going to love shaking it around! I hope this card gives you some fun holiday inspiration. Thanks for visiting!
